Ahmadreza Djalali, the Iranian-Swedish doctor and guest professor at VUB who is imprisoned in Iran, was examined by a cardiologist on Saturday at Evin Prison near Tehran, the Iranian capital. A blood test was conducted, but no ultrasound was performed, reported his colleague and friend Gerlant van Berlaer, a pediatric doctor at UZ Brussel, on Sunday.
Ahmadreza Djalali suffered a heart attack in prison during the night between Thursday and Friday, according to the Swedish news agency TT, which was informed by the prisoner’s wife and lawyer. According to them, his life is in danger and his health is rapidly deteriorating.
Djalali was originally not scheduled to see a cardiologist until Sunday, but he was eventually examined on Saturday, explained Gerlant van Berlaer. The results of the blood test are not yet known, he added. “He also needs an ultrasound, but it had not yet been performed as of Saturday.”
