A small crowd of about a hundred people gathered on Friday evening in front of the Porte Jeune shopping gallery in Mulhouse in support of the Alsatian hostage. Among them were her parents, Pascal and Mireille.
As regional councilor Cécile Germain-Ecuer, present at every protest, reminded the crowd that from now on, gatherings would take place on the first Friday of every month at 6 p.m. in front of the Porte Jeune gallery in Mulhouse, Pascal Kohler took the floor to declare:
“There will be no next rally for Cécile: Cécile will be freed, and we will be together with her again.”
The father keeps believing—and refuses to believe anything else.
“We are panicked about what’s happening over there”
He repeats over and over:
“Cécile and Jacques are innocent of everything they’ve been accused of. They must be returned to the French authorities—and not in three months.”
It’s a cry of despair, though it’s also what gets him up at the crack of dawn each day.
“I check all the websites that might give me news related to Cécile, three times a day. But clearly, we are powerless, panicked about what’s happening there. So we have to find the strength to support one another, to stay hopeful.”

For 1,155 days, time has stood still for the family of the Alsatian teacher, whose parents live in Soultz.
