The Argentine government demanded before the United Nations Human Rights Council the immediate release of Argentine lawyer Germán Darío Giuliani, who has been detained in Venezuela for 298 days. The request was made by Argentine ambassador Carlos Foradori during a session in Geneva focused on the human rights situation in Venezuela, and included direct criticism of the dictatorial regime led by Delcy Rodríguez.
Foradori’s intervention included a demand that the Venezuelan state guarantee the lawyer’s physical integrity and respect his fundamental rights. Giuliani is currently the only Argentine citizen who remains deprived of liberty in Venezuela, following the recent release of the gendarme Nahuel Gallo, who spent 448 days imprisoned and incommunicado before being released on March 1, 2026. Argentina’s demand was accompanied by a tense exchange with the Venezuelan delegation, which interrupted the speech to object to the language used by the Argentine representative.
