Azerbaijan Keeps Frenchman In Jail For Metro Graffiti


Washington D.C. – Barron’s, December 16, 2024

A court in Azerbaijan on Monday ruled that a French citizen must serve out a three-year jail term for drawing graffiti, the latest incident putting Paris and Baku at loggerheads.

France has condemned the punishment for 38-year-old Theo Hugo Clerc — originally sentenced in September — and warned its citizens not to travel to Azerbaijan unless absolutely necessary.
