Biden Welcomes Kremlin Critic to the White House

United States President Joe Biden met with Russian opposition figure Vladimir Kara-Murza and his family at the White House on Thursday.

Kara-Murza was released from prison in Russia in a prisoner swap deal between Moscow and several Western countries on August 1.

Biden posted on “Facebook” that the meeting was held to “celebrate his return to America”, after he was “unjustly imprisoned in Russia for speaking out against Russia’s war in Ukraine”.

Kara-Murza was the target of two poisoning incidents, which he blamed on the Russian government.

He was serving a 25-year prison sentence for treason before being released in the exchange deal.

After his release, Kara-Murza said that the difference between dictatorship and democracy is that in democracy human life is sacred.
