The Franco-Algerian writer was released from prison on Wednesday in Algeria. He is currently in Germany and is expected to arrive in France in the coming hours.
He is speaking out for the first time since his release. The Franco-Algerian writer Boualem Sansal, pardoned on Wednesday by Algeria after a year in detention, is “doing rather well” and hopes to arrive in France this Friday or Saturday, he said on Thursday, November 13, in the evening, during a phone conversation with his colleague and supporter Kamel Daoud, transcribed in Le Point.
“My schedule isn’t fully set, because the political side comes first, but I’ll be in Paris tomorrow or in two days,” Boualem Sansal declared from Berlin, according to the remarks reported on the magazine’s website.
Kamel Daoud, the Franco-Algerian writer and 2024 Goncourt Prize winner, explained that he had been able to reach Boualem Sansal by phone through one of Sansal’s friends in Berlin.
