The French teacher is placed in solitary confinement. “These are terrible conditions, a real torture,” says the Iranian activist who has heard from fellow inmates.
Frenchwoman Cécile Kohler has been imprisoned in Iran since May 2022. “Physically, she is very weak and I am very worried about her,” Iranian activist Narges Mohammadi said on Wednesday, January 8 on France Inter
Cécile Kohler, an associate professor of French and teacher of modern literature in the Yvelines region, was arrested on May 7, 2022 in Iran with her partner Jacques Paris, a 69-year-old former mathematics teacher, while they were visiting the country as tourists. The couple are suspected of espionage by the Iranian state.
Narges Mohammadi, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023 for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and for the promotion of human rights, gave news of Cécile Kohler via the Frenchwoman’s co-detainees. “I was in solitary confinement too, you know. And these are terrible conditions, real torture”, she assured us.
