Djalali Has Not Been Heard From After the Bombings

Sweden – Expressen, Mar. 02, 2026

The Swedish-Iranian researcher Ahmadreza Djalali, 54, is imprisoned in the notorious Evin Prison while American and Israeli bombs fall outside.

His wife, Vida Mehrannia, has not been able to reach him since Thursday.

“I spoke with him for two minutes,” she tells Expressen.

Prison staff have fled and locked the gates behind them, according to the human rights organization IHRS.

Chaos prevails inside the walls of Evin Prison in Tehran, according to a report published Sunday by the non-profit human rights organization Iran Human Rights Society.

Prisoners’ access to food and basic necessities has been severely restricted, sources with insight told the organization.

Among the inmates is the Swedish-Iranian KI researcher Ahmadreza Djalali. In April, he will have been imprisoned by the ayatollah regime for ten years, sentenced to death after being accused of spying for the country’s arch-enemy Israel.

“Could Only Talk for Two Minutes”

Since the United States and Israel launched the bombing campaign on Saturday, his wife has not communicated with him.

“On Thursday he called me. We could only talk for two minutes because the internet connection was poor,” says Vida Mehrannia.
