The Swedish-Iranian Ahmadreza Djalali has been imprisoned in Iran for over 9.5 years, and the danger to his life is considered acute.
In an audio clip from inside the notorious Evin Prison, he criticizes the passivity of Swedish authorities.
“– We really do care about his life,” assures Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M).
A grim milestone has passed for the Swedish-Iranian doctor Ahmadreza Djalali, who is imprisoned in Iran.
“– Today marks 3,500 days since my wife and my children began living with enormous psychological torture because they are afraid I will be executed,” he says in an audio file obtained by DN.
The message is said to have been recorded last Saturday.
The researcher from Karolinska Institute has been sentenced to death for allegedly spying on Iran’s nuclear program on behalf of Israel.
Djalali has denied the accusations and says the confession he gave was forced under torture.
This summer, Iranian authorities announced their intention to accelerate the carrying out of death sentences against prisoners convicted of espionage. Three people were executed at that time.
Sweden has repeatedly demanded that Iran release Djalali from Evin Prison in Tehran — so far without success.
“– Do the Swedish representatives really care about my life? Honestly, I doubt it,” Djalali says in the clip.
