The Swedish-Iranian doctor Ahmadreza Djalali, who was sentenced to death, has not been heard from since the end of June. During the summer, Iran has also escalated the number of executions. The situation for Ahmadreza Djalali is described as “extremely worrying”, according to the human rights organization IHR.
Ahmadreza Djalali and his fellow prisoners were moved from Evin Prison to an unknown location in late June, after the prison became a target of Israeli attacks on Iran. He has been missing since then, his wife Vida Mehrannia told the TT news agency.
His lawyer has also not been allowed to visit or speak to his client on the phone, according to the news agency. Ahmadreza Djalali is now considered to be at increased risk of being executed in the near future, as he was convicted of spying for Israel. Iran has also stepped up its executions over the summer. In July alone, 110 people were executed, which is more than double the number compared to July last year.
