Concerns Over Ahmadreza Djalali’s Fate Amid Mass Transfer of Political Prisoners from Evin Prison

UK – Iran International, June 24, 2025

According to exclusive information received by Iran International, Ahmadreza Djalali, the Iranian-Swedish physician and researcher sentenced to death, was initially transferred on Monday (June 24) from Evin Prison to Ward 2 of the Greater Tehran Prison, but just moments ago, he was moved to an unknown location.

The refusal of Greater Tehran Prison authorities to provide any information about Djalali’s whereabouts has intensified speculation that his execution may be imminent, especially amid rising tensions between the Islamic Republic and Israel.

At the same time, new reports reveal a mass transfer of political prisoners from Evin to Greater Tehran and Qarchak prisons. According to informed sources, dozens of political prisoners were moved late Monday night in extremely poor conditions — handcuffed and shackled, without personal belongings, and in a state of confusion and disarray — to Ward 2 of Greater Tehran Prison. Witnesses say political prisoners were separated from financial crime detainees. However, some transferred prisoners are not listed in the official registry of the Greater Tehran Prison, deepening families’ concerns.
