Professor Ahmadreza Djalali, a guest researcher at the VUB (Free University of Brussels), has been imprisoned in Iran since 2016 and was sentenced to death after an unfair trial. He has endured years of inhumane treatment, including solitary confinement, medical neglect, and psychological torture. After alarming reports about a possible execution and his recent transfer to an unknown location, his situation has become extremely precarious.
The Flemish Parliament is calling on the Flemish Government to act with utmost urgency. Specifically, the Parliament urges the government to contact the Iranian ambassador again, to apply pressure through European and diplomatic channels, and to actively advocate for clemency and Djalali’s immediate release. The resolution will also be forwarded to the European Council, the European Commission, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, the President of the European Parliament, and the governments and parliaments of the EU member states.
