French Nationals Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris Detained in Iran for More than 1,000 Days

The Alsatian teacher and her companion were arrested in May 2022 on charges of “espionage” while they were sightseeing.  

They have already spent over thirty-four months behind bars. Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris were arrested in May 2022 for “espionage” while they were touring, and these two French nationals are still being detained in Iran as of Monday, March 31.  

The Alsatian teacher and her companion have been imprisoned for more than a thousand days “under conditions that amount to torture,” condemned the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday. The spokesperson for the Quai d’Orsay praised “their courage and that of their family” during a press briefing, while another French citizen, Olivier Grondeau, was released on March 20 after 29 months in an Iranian prison.
