For around three months, German journalist Eva Maria Michelmann had been missing in Syria. The German Foreign Office has now been able to establish contact with her for the first time and is providing her with consular support.
The German Foreign Office has managed to make contact with the German journalist Eva Maria Michelmann, who had been missing in Syria for three months. “After intensive efforts, including at a high level and through various channels, we were able today to gain direct access to Ms. Michelmann,” the ministry said. She will now continue to receive consular assistance.
According to the law firm representing Michelmann’s mother and brother, the Cologne native is being held in a prison in Aleppo. The Foreign Office did not confirm her exact location. The embassies in Beirut and Damascus are involved in the case, it said. The law firm for Michelmann’s family stated that they had been informed that the journalist had been visited on Thursday by representatives of the German embassy at the prison.
