A new negotiation channel is opening for the release and return home of Alberto Trentini, the 46-year-old humanitarian worker from Lido Venice, who has been held for more than a year in Venezuela’s mega-prison El Rodeo I. This is not about diplomatic breakthroughs in relations between Rome and Caracas—where silence still prevails, just as it does around Alberto’s imprisonment—but rather about a negotiation channel opened by UN Ambassador Alberto López (pictured on the left with Venezuelan lawmaker Luis Eduardo Martínez), a Venezuelan based in Vienna, with the support of the Glass Palace (the United Nations), the International Organization for the Development of Diplomatic Relations, the International Organization for Human Rights, and the Holy See.
