It’s been over 243 days since Boualem Sansal has been imprisoned in Algerian jails. The support committee for the Franco-Algerian writer met this Thursday morning to take stock of the situation. They denounce the silence and inaction of the French authorities and now seek to broaden the mobilization on an international scale.
No more discretion and silence as recommended by the authorities. Boualem Sansal’s supporters are outraged by what they call the French government’s “deliberate” inaction. For Arnaud Benedetti, editor-in-chief of Revue politique et parlementaire, the committee must now increase its pressure tactics to break the deadlock—even if that means appealing to other governments.
“The internationalization of the fight will intensify and continue on literary, academic, and intellectual fronts, as well as on the political front, since we will be reaching out to President Lula in Brazil to help us free Boualem Sansal from the dungeon into which the Algerian authorities have thrown him.”
