Iran: Ahmadreza Djalali more than 3,000 Days Behind Bars

Ahmadreza Djalali’s health deteriorated further following the hunger strike of 26 June to 4 July 2024 which, according to his wife Vida Mehrannia, he went on to protest his arbitrary detention and for being “left behind” following the prisoner exchange agreement between Iran and Sweden on 15 June.
Known in Italy for having long worked at the University of Eastern Piedmont in Novara, the researcher was arrested in April 2016 and sentenced to death for “corruption on earth” after a seriously unfair trial spoiled by confessions extorted with torture. 3000 days after his arrest, Amnesty International Italy continues to demand that Ahmadreza Djalali return home, to his family.
