When Lindsay and Craig Foreman headed off on a motorcycle tour across the world, the last thing they expected was to end up in jail. The British couple have been held in Iran for a year now accused of espionage, allegations that their family firmly denies. The couple’s legal reps in the country say they are now being unlawfully detained.

The pair have not been offered bail, and have been held without charge for so long that the legal threshold to keep detaining them has passed, experts say. But the couple still remain trapped in the unimaginable horror of Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison, surrounded by mass executions.

The UK has now closed its embassy in the country after unrest swept across Iran. The regime imposed an internet blackout after they began violently clamping down on protests, with thousands of protesters said to have been executed so far.

“People are being executed around them. We are genuinely scared for their lives. The blackouts in Iran have not stopped the violence, they have simply hidden it. Executions are continuing despite international protests,” Lindsay’s distraught son Joe Bennett tells The Mirror.

Joe says phone calls have been few and far between, leaving the family desperately worried about if their parents are dead or alive. Lindsay is suffering from health problems and was put on a drip back in September, and Craig has lost a significant amount of weight as they languish in vermin-infested cells, surrounded by violence. Both previously went on hunger strike in protest over their lack of phone calls to loved ones.
