Concern is growing over the fate of Ahmadreza Djalali, the Swedish-Iranian academic who was arbitrarily arrested on April 25, 2016, while on a business trip to Iran, and accused of spying for Israel. Following the Israeli attacks on June 13, hundreds of people have been arrested in Iran on charges of “collaboration” or “espionage.” Since June 16, authorities have arbitrarily executed at least six individuals on such charges.
In recent days, it was revealed that on June 24, Ahmadreza Djalali, who is in poor health, was transferred from Evin prison to an unknown location. His execution may be imminent.
We urgently call for a halt to any plans for his execution and for his immediate release. There are three ways to help: by contacting the Iranian embassy in Rome via email; by signing and sharing the online petition to stop any execution plans, to demand the death sentence be overturned, and to call for Ahmadreza Djalali’s immediate release; and by sharing his story on social media while tagging Iranian authorities.
