On the first anniversary of the illegal detention of Argentine citizen Nahuel Gallo, the Government of the Argentine Republic expresses its strong condemnation of this unjust event, which is incompatible with international law.
The situation of Corporal First Class Nahuel Gallo—who remains illegally detained without judicial guarantees or access for his family—constitutes an arbitrary and unjustified detention by Venezuelan authorities.
As has been repeatedly denounced by our country, the continued detention of the Argentine gendarme under these unacceptable conditions constitutes a clear case of forced disappearance and a flagrant violation of international law.
In this context, the Republic of Argentina has brought the case before various international forums and has reported those responsible to the competent international bodies, as well as coordinated multiple diplomatic efforts to secure his release.
