Iran has executed three men accused of spying for Israel, according to the Iranian judiciary. The situation of Swedish citizen Ahmadreza Djalali remains unclear, but Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson says he has made new contacts regarding the matter.
The three executed men were accused of collaborating with Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad. They allegedly smuggled equipment that was used in an assassination, according to Iran’s judiciary.
The three individuals were named, but do not include the Swedish-Iranian researcher Ahmadreza Djalali, who has been imprisoned in Iran since 2016 and is also sentenced to death for alleged espionage for Israel.
At the NATO summit in The Hague, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (Moderate Party) said he spoke with an unnamed prime minister about Djalali’s situation.
