Meloni: “We Will Stay Focused on Trentini Until He Can Embrace His Mother Again”

“We have been dealing with the Trentini case on a daily basis for 400 days, and as we know he is not the only Italian detained,” Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said during the traditional year-end press conference. “We have done so—and continue to do so—by mobilizing all channels: political, diplomatic, and intelligence. We will not stop until Mrs. Armanda can embrace her son again.”

“It is deeply painful not to be able to provide answers within the timeframes I would like,” Meloni added. “I welcome with joy the release of the other Italians. I am confident, and I believe the signal sent by the Venezuelan president points toward reconciliation. We take note of it and believe it could represent a very important development in relations between Italy and Venezuela.”
