María Alexandra Gómez, the wife of Argentine gendarme Nahuel Gallo — who ended up imprisoned in a Caracas jail — pleaded with the Argentine government: “Don’t let him spend another Christmas in El Rodeo 1.”
“I’ve told the national government of Argentina: don’t allow Nahuel to spend another Christmas in El Rodeo 1. Don’t allow him to complete a full year in detention. Nahuel is a human being. I know the fight must continue until Nahuel and all the innocent people who are being held unjustly today are free,” Gómez said.
Gómez — a Venezuelan living in Argentina — spoke to the Latin American news channel DNEWS, nearly a year after her husband was taken by Nicolás Maduro’s regime when he entered Venezuela to visit her and their son Víctor, who were vacationing there at the time.
Peruvian-American citizen Renzo Yasir Huamanchumo Castillo, who was imprisoned alongside the Argentine gendarme in El Rodeo 1, also took part in the interview and revealed: “Nahuel has hopes of getting out and is very worried about his son.”
Castillo, who was detained for ten months in Caracas, told Gómez about moments he shared with Gallo in the prison where the Venezuelan government is holding more than 40 foreigners of various nationalities accused of alleged terrorism.
“Renzo gave me total relief by telling me that Nahuel is still smiling. Thank God, several Colombians who were with him until recently also told me that Nahuel is still strong, and that filled my soul. Because I said: they haven’t broken him — and that’s what matters, that they haven’t broken him,” Gallo’s wife said.
Gómez added: “That’s what keeps me firm, keeps me standing, because I know I have more strength to fight for him. And here is Víctor, who is just like his dad — he loves to run, he never sits still — and he misses him so much. I’m comforted knowing that he’s not broken, not weakened, that he is strong and keeps the spirit that defines him.”
Gallo was detained on December 8, 2024, in Venezuela, also accused of alleged terrorism, and since then the family has waited for signs of life from him.

Castillo revealed on DNEWS that Gallo remained hopeful and explained that when he was taken to El Rodeo 1, the Argentine was first placed in a different tower and then later transferred to the same area: “Nahuel was in cell number 2 with a man named Jaco, who is an Argentine Jew.”
