Peru Reiterates Its Concern over Peruvians Missing in Venezuela

Peru – Andina, December 24, 2024

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated its deep concern over the situation of Peruvian citizens Renzo Huamanchumo Castillo, Nelson Cubas Mendoza and Ricardo Meléndez Guerrero, whose locations are unknown to date, after they were arbitrarily detained in Venezuela by authorities of that country between September 22 and October 18 of this year.

In a statement, it said that the Government of Peru strongly rejects these detentions without any legal basis, and demands Venezuelan authorities to respect human rights of the aforementioned Peruvian citizens.

It also requests that information be provided as soon as possible on their locations, state of health and legal situation, in application of the international commitments that Venezuela has assumed.

Following the breaking of diplomatic relations that Venezuela decided to execute against Peru, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has made repeated efforts through our Interests Section in Caracas, in charge of the Embassy of the Federative Republic of Brazil and other friendly States.
