Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris, Hostages in Iran for 3 Years: Support Events Organized Across France to Demand Their Release
Wednesday, May 7 will mark three years of captivity for hostages Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris in the Islamic Republic of Iran. For three years, they have been deprived of their fundamental rights and held in inhumane detention conditions, some of which qualify as torture under international law. Their families and supporters are mobilizing across France to demand their release.
A fourth consular visit was granted to Jacques and Cécile on April 15 (the previous visit took place on February 18, 2024). Limited to ten minutes each, the meetings were conducted under close and intimidating surveillance, preventing them from speaking freely. Rare video calls to their families, occurring less than once per month, are randomly granted and take place under heavy monitoring, restricting communication and sometimes involving the delivery of threatening messages. During the most recent call on April 14, families observed an agent filming the conversation.
