For over nine years, the Swedish-Iranian doctor and researcher Ahmadreza Djalali has been imprisoned in Iran, where he was visiting to give lectures. He has been sentenced to death and fined two million kronor for espionage — a charge he has consistently denied.
His friend, Mehrnaz Mousavi, began a four-day hunger strike in front of the Swedish Parliament on Monday. To highlight the gravity of the situation, she has also sewn her mouth shut.
“I am here to say: ‘Do something for Ahmadreza Djalali before the regime in Iran kills him.’ Sweden must put strong pressure on the regime — and the executions in Iran must be stopped,” writes Mehrnaz Mousavi, who is hunger striking outside the parliament.
