Sweden Halts Visas for Iranian Staff

Sweden takes further action against Iran following the execution of a Swedish citizen. No more short-term visas will be granted for Iranian embassy staff.

Sweden is pushing within the EU for sanctions against those who in various ways played a role in the legal process that led to the execution. This includes measures such as restricting entry to the EU.

At the same time, Sweden is blocking the possibility of short-term visas for diplomatic staff from Iran, affecting two people at the Iranian embassy. No new visas of this type, which are valid for 100 days, will be granted, meaning the individuals will not have their residence permits extended from May.
