The IBAHRI and The CPACF Express Their Concern over The Arbitrary detention of Lawyer Germán Darío Giuliani

The International Bar Association Human Rights Institute (IBAHRI) and the Colegio Público de Abogados de la Capital Federal (CPACF) express serious concern regarding the continued arbitrary detention of Argentine lawyer Germán Darío Giuliani in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

Mr Giuliani, an Argentine national and lawyer registered with the CPACF, has been detained since May 2025 under circumstances that appear to seriously violate his fundamental human rights, including the right to liberty and security and to a fair trial, and raise grave concerns regarding the conditions of his detention, including his right to maintain regular communication with his family.

The case presents additional concern as Mr Giuliani is a foreign lawyer and national of a country that currently has no diplomatic relations with Venezuela, thereby limiting access to traditional forms of consular protection and underscoring the importance of international oversight and support.
