Trial of Activist Rocío San Miguel in Venezuela Postponed Due to “Energy-Saving” Measures

The Venezuelan court handling the “terrorism” case against human rights activist Rocío San Miguel postponed the start of the trial for the third time on Monday, citing “energy-saving” measures, AFP reported.

The court had previously delayed the trial twice due to the “failure to transfer” San Miguel to the Palace of Justice in Caracas. Around midday, judicial officials informed family members and legal representatives that the hearing could not proceed due to an “energy-saving” policy recently implemented in public offices by the government in response to a drought.

San Miguel was arrested 13 months ago, accused by authorities of being linked to a plot to assassinate President Nicolás Maduro.

The hearing has been rescheduled for May 26, one day after Venezuela’s parliamentary and gubernatorial elections.
