Dozens of Venezuelans demonstrated this Sunday at Plaza de Mayo in Buenos Aires, in front of the Casa Rosada, joining a global protest called by Venezuelan leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate María Corina Machado in more than 120 cities worldwide, to demand the release of over 500 political prisoners still detained in Venezuela.
Family members of Argentine lawyer Germán Giuliani were present at the protest. He has been held in Venezuela for more than 11 months.
Virginia Rivero, Giuliani’s wife, denounced the conditions of his detention: “Since he was abducted on May 21, 2025, all his rights have been violated. He was subjected to enforced disappearance, he was tortured, and his detention is arbitrary. Since February, there has been a release order that they refuse to carry out.”
His sister, Vanesa Giuliani, directly called on the administration of President Donald Trump to pressure the regime of Delcy Rodríguez to secure his release: “We ask that the United States, which has been overseeing Venezuela since January 3, take the necessary steps to secure the release of Germán, of the more than 40 foreign hostages still held in Venezuela, and the more than 500 Venezuelan political prisoners.”
