France, Charente Libre, July 06, 2025

The relatives of the 18-year-old man, who was on a cycling trip, have had no news from him since June 16.

A young Frenchman on a bicycle tour in Iran has not contacted his family since June 16, a French diplomatic source said on Sunday, responding to a missing person alert circulating on social media.

“The disappearance is worrying.”

“We are in contact with the family about this,” the diplomatic source said, recalling that French nationals are advised not to travel to Iran, as Tehran is implementing “a deliberate policy of taking Westerners hostage. The source added, “For those already there, it is recommended that they leave Iranian territory immediately due to the risk of arbitrary arrest and detention.”

France warns of arbitrary arrests, torture

“Iran targets passing French nationals, accuses them of espionage, and holds them in degrading conditions—some of which meet the international legal definition of torture,” the French source emphasized.

The source could not confirm whether this young Frenchman is among the Europeans recently arrested in Iran on accusations of spying for Israel.
