Camilo Castro disappeared on June 26 at the Paraguachón border crossing, which separates Venezuela from Colombia, where he lives. According to his family, he had gone there to renew his Colombian residence visa, which had expired.
Having gone a long time without any news from him, Camilo Castro’s family decided to make the case public. The Frenchman, who is about to spend his 41st birthday in prison, was arrested two months ago in Venezuela at the Colombian border “without cause and without his consular rights being respected,” his relatives denounced in a statement relayed by AFP, confirming information first reported by Libération.
The last time Camilo Castro sent a message to his family was June 26. At 10:25 that morning, he sent a voice note saying he was heading to the Paraguachón border crossing because of a visa issue, Amnesty International reported. “I don’t know how I’m going to sort this out,” he explained.
